Police are asking the public to help find a high-risk, “dangerous offender” wanted on a Canada-wide warrant after being released last month.

Back in March, police warned that 44-year-old Simon Gares had been released in Toronto.

The Toronto Police Service said Gares had been convicted of assault cause bodily harm in 2019 and was “found to be a dangerous offender.”

Gares is under a lifetime weapons prohibition order and a long term supervision order that he breached in 2024, and was released into a Community Based Residential Facility in Toronto.

But now a Canada-wide warrant has been issued for the man who the OPP says has breached his statutory release.

Gares is described as a “high-risk” dangerous offender who poses a “demonstrated risk to the community, including children,” TPS says.

He is described as a 44-year-old male standing around five-foot-ten-inches tall and weighing around 170 lbs, with brown hair and hazel eyes.

Gares also has several tattoos including a dragon on his right shoulder, a tribal joker on his left shoulder, the words “twisted” on his upper back, barbed wire and the words “life is simple” on his right writs, barbed wire with a star symbol, the number “5” and the words “shy no” on his left writs, and an Irish cross on his right forearm.

Police say Gares is known to frequent the Toronto area and are asking anyone with information to contact investigators.

Anyone with information about this incident can contact the OPP Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement squad by calling 416-808-5900 or toll free at 1-866-870-7673 (ROPE).

Anonymous tips may also be provided to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca. When you contact Crime Stoppers you stay anonymous, never have to testify, and could receive a $2,000 reward.
