Dance the ‘shake, shake’ with Wags the dog at Kerrfest in Oakville

Labour Day weekend may be behind us, but kids and families aren’t done celebrating yet in Oakville.
The fourth annual Kerrfest Kids is this Sunday (Sept. 10) at Westwood Park in Oakville. The one-day celebration is dedicated to families and their children and features live musical performers, tasty food and a hold list of activities scheduled from noon to 6 p.m.
The fun day kicks off with Crash Rhythm at 12:30 p.m. The alternative, dynamic and engaging approach to music education uses bucket drumming to tie together teamwork, creativity and fun while also learning the basics of music.
“Our children’s program teaches creativity through song writing and improvising; leadership through conducting and curriculum input; and teamwork through ensemble work and performance,” said Crash Rhythm. “As a member of the adult CRASH program, participants learn about the basics of music education, music history and percussion.”
Taking the stage at 1:45 and 3:30 p.m. will be Dorothy the dinosaur and Wags the dog for a sing-along and dance party.
Both are well-known beloved characters in the Wiggles TV & Live Show. Dorothy loves roses and is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dinosaur Dancing, while Wags is a dancing dog who “loves to dance the shake, shake.”
At 2:30 p.m. kids and families can join Mystic Drumz on “The Road to Jello Town.”
Started in 1995 in Toronto by founder Lorne Lampert, Mystic Drumz is a fun and creative way of bringing hand drumming and children together.
Kerrfest for Kids closes out the day with a live musical performance by Leave Those Kids Alone from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
A fan vote winner in the CBC Music Searchlight 2022, the band features five talented teenagers playing renditions of classic rock favourites.
Leave Those Kids Alone released their debut album titled Groundwork last year, which features seven original songs written by the band. The have performed over 300 shows across the province and in Michigan and the Midwest in the United States.
Admission for Kerrfest is free. Westwood Park is located at the corner of Kerr St. and Bond St.
