DAILY UPDATE: COVID-19 cases reported at three new public schools in Milton, Oakville, Burlington on Oct. 19

COVID-19 cases jumped up by 33 per cent overnight at public schools in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills on Oct. 19.

Three new schools are now reporting positive cases among staff and students bringing the total to 16, up from 12 yesterday.

Ten of the board’s 106 schools now have a positive case, but the Halton District School Board continues to report zero classrooms closed.

A classroom is considered closed when the teacher and students have to spend at least 10 days quarantining at home and learning online.

“We do have some schools that have outbreaks in classrooms, but we don’t have any classes that are considered completely ‘closed’,” said a board spokesperson. The Board says at least one student, or the teacher, from the class where the positive case was reported, has returned to school, even among students too young to be vaccinated.

As cases are resolved, schools will come off the report.
