DAILY UPDATE: 79 COVID-19 cases being reported at 51 public schools in Mississauga and Brampton
Published October 7, 2021 at 12:05 pm
Four fewer public schools in Mississauga and Brampton are reporting COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday (October 6).
Positive cases of COVID-19 in the Peel District School Board are at 79, up four from the 75 reported the day before, and 61 classrooms are closed, up 56 from the previous day.
Fifty of the 296 schools in the Region are reporting at least one active case.
When a classroom is closed, all the students from that class are sent home and must attend school virtually for a 10-day quarantine period.
The Peel board is choosing to report zero classrooms closed in any of its secondary schools. According to the board, once any student from an effected class returns to school, the entire class is considered “not closed.” Because most secondary students are vaccinated, their quarantine period can be much shorter. Therefore, it’s extremely unlikely Peel will report secondary school classrooms closed, regardless of how many students are not in school
