Cyclist killed in Burlington identified as 81-year-old man

Police have released these images of a car allegedly involved in fatal collision with a cyclist.

The person killed by a hit-and-run driver in Burlington yesterday (May 18) has been identified as an 81-year-old man.

Police have confirmed the cyclist died in hospital after being involved in a collision with a motorist on North Shore Blvd. near the QEW overpass just after 2:30 p.m.

His name has not been released.

The search is now on for the driver of the car involved in the incident.

Halton Regional Police say the driver left the area after the collision and was last seen heading east on North Shore Blvd. before turning north on Maple Ave.

The victim was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Early information suggests the suspect vehicle is a recent model year silver Volkswagen Jetta, or similar four-door vehicle, and will have damage to its hood, windshield and the front right of the body.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has information that could help identify the suspect vehicle is asked to call police.
