Cyclist from Hamilton dies in a collision involving an SUV in Wellington County

An 81-year-old cyclist from Hamilton has died following a crash in Wellington County.

An SUV and cyclist collided on County Road 12 between County Road 8 and Twelfth Line in Mapleton Township around 3 p.m. yesterday (April 16), the OPP said in a press release.

The Wellington County OPP, the Guelph Wellington Paramedic Service and the Drayton Fire Department attended the scene.

The cyclist, an 81-year-old of Hamilton, was transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead, police said. The driver of the SUV was uninjured.

The Wellington County OPP is continuing to investigate with the assistance of the OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team.

Wellington County Road 12 was closed between County Road 8 and Twelfth Line for the investigation.
