Cyclist dead after hit-and-run in Lincoln; police searching for suspect

Police are searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run this morning (July 25) in Lincoln.

Around 7:30 a.m., officers and emergency service personnel responded to the incident at North Service Road between Sann Road North and Tufford Road North.

A male cyclist in his 50s was found critically injured and was transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

“The driver of the vehicle that struck the cyclist fled the scene west bound (Hamilton bound) on the North Service Road,” said police.

Police say the suspect is a male reportedly driving a light green or grey car. The car will have front end damage and damage to the windshield.

Detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit, 8 District detective office, and the NRPS Forensic Services Unit are continuing to investigate and examine debris left at the scene to develop a vehicle description.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as a 51 year old man from Grimsby.

The suspect is believed to be a white male in his 30s with dark hair, six feet tall with a heavy build. He was wearing a grey jacket or sweater and a red checkered shirt.

“Detectives have determined the driver was fully aware of the collision and then left scene,” police said.

The suspect vehicle is a four-door sedan that has been described as grey/blue or light green. The car has dark tinted windows and damage in the following locations:

  • Heavy damage to the passenger side windshield with a hole in the glass near the roof line
  • Passenger side dented roof
  • Damage to front bumper and hood
