A customer in a Pickering convenience store stopped an armed robbery last night, snatching the bag of ill-gotten goods from the robber.

Around 6 p.m. March 22, a man walked into to the Smart Food Fair on Pickering Parkway. He allegedly produced a knife and demanded cash from the register.

As the man tried to leave the store, a customer confronted him. The customer grabbed the man’s bag and the man took off on foot.

Durham police quickly arrived on scene and arrested a man on Greta Circle while he hid on the property of a nearby home.

The clerk was unharmed physically in the attempted robbery.

Alex Morgan, 26 of Pickering, is charged with robbery with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace and disguise with intent. He will remain in custody until a bail hearing.
