An unfortunate combination of Monday’s blizzard and COVID-19’s fifth wave has left Halton Region’s waste department scrambling in Milton, Oakville, Burlington and Halton Hills.

The planned collection of Christmas trees this week has been cancelled.

The region already had to bump everyone’s garbage pickup back one day due to the storm, and the increase in staff absences due to COVID-19 is putting additional strain on the department’s resources.

Households will be able to place their trees curbside on their regularly scheduled collection day the week of Jan. 24. Collection this week will focus on blue box, green cart and garbage.

As a reminder, residents are required to ensure trees are not stuck in snow banks and are easily accessible to collection crews. For more information, visit Halton Region’s website.
