Battery collection day coming to Mississauga Brampton Caledon

It’s time to dig out that box of old batteries as Mississauga and Brampton households can ditch their dead cells at the curb for a limited time.

Curbside battery collection is on now until April 20 in Mississauga and Brampton, giving residents a convenient way to safely dispose of batteries and keep them out of the landfill.

Mississauga and Brampton residents can check their waste collection calendars to find your battery collection day. Here are some guidelines and tips for curbside battery disposal:

  • Gather your used single-use and rechargeable batteries in a transparent, sealed bag
  • Place your battery bag on top of your closed green bin on your designated battery collection day (if you don’t have a green bin, place your battery bag beside your recycling bags)
  • Rechargeable and 9volt batteries: Tape the ends of all rechargeable and 9V batteries before disposal. Alkaline batteries do not need to be taped.
  • DO NOT place car batteries or sealed lead acid batteries on the curb. These will not be collected. You can take them to any Peel Community Recycling Centre for disposal free of charge.

If you live in an apartment or condominium, check with your building property manager on how to dispose of batteries safely.

You can also find a drop-off location near you to safely dispose of used and old batteries throughout the year.
