Culture Days – a national event fostering connection with arts and culture – returns to Oshawa September 27 and organizations, collectives and post-secondary programs can get into the spirit of the celebration by submitting proposals for temporary exhibitions to be displayed at Art & Culture in the Hall, located outside the council chambers at City Hall.
Proposals can include art exhibitions, heritage exhibitions, cultural exhibitions and community storytelling exhibitions, with as many as four proposals to be selected. Exhibitions will be on display from February 2026 to August 2026.
Submissions will be accepted until noon on Friday, October 3.
A selection committee will review submitted proposals and may consist of representatives from the city’s Cultural Leadership Council, Public Art Task Force, and/or city staff.
The city will also launch a call for artists for Art & Culture in the Hall in early 2026.
Visit oshawa.ca/ArtintheHall for information on the exhibition space, how to apply, application requirements, selection criteria, eligibility and more.
Oshawa will host a free afternoon of activities at the Arts Resource Centre (adjacent to City Hall) on September 27 to celebrate Culture Days, with this year’s activities also honouring National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
From noon to 4 p.m. visitors can take part in a hands-on art activity, enjoy light refreshments and attend a free screening of Birth of a Family beginning at 1:30 p.m. This documentary, provided by the National Film Board of Canada follows a family dealing with the repercussions of the Residential School system and the Sixties Scoop.
The film deals with harsh realities with potentially upsetting scenes and outdated language. Viewer discretion is advised.
