Culture Days is back with three weeks of events showcasing Brampton’s mosaic with artist workshops, guided tours, musical performances and much more.

The annual Culture Days festival kicked off on Friday (Sept. 22), inviting Bramptonians to discover and take part in arts and cultural events celebrating Canada’s diversity.

The Canada-wide celebration of arts and culture runs until Oct. 15 and there are plenty of Brampton events for residents to mingle with artists, creators, historians, architects, filmmakers, curators and designers at work in the community.

The Brampton Arts Organization, Brampton Library, Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives (PAMA) and Brampton’s creative community have all come together for the festival which will offer free, hands-on and interactive activities for residents to explore.

Here are just some of the events you can catch in Brampton for Culture Days:

Beading Workshop – Sept. 28

Learn about traditional Indigenous beading from artist Katie Longboat from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. Longboat’s art is inspired by both Cree and Haudenosaunee beadwork styles and inspired by the natural world, her travels, and her family. Registration is required.

Art Expression – Oct. 1

Explore the basics of photography using your cell phone in this three-part introductory course.

In this introductory course to photography, local photographer Mithea from Studiomits.com will teach the basics of photography, highlighting angles, lighting and backgrounds, and provide tips and tricks to taking photos on your cellphone.

My Neighbourhood Project – Old Fairgrounds Park Community Paint Day – Oct. 1

Join artists Sima Naseem and Angelica Candido for a community mural painting session at Old Fairgrounds Park.

Participants will have the chance to contribute to a collaborative neighbourhood beautification project that will see small mural interventions pop up throughout the park. All ages and skill levels are welcome with no experience necessary.

Music Night featuring the Brampton Folk Club – Oct. 5

Enjoy the musical talents of local artists and explore our historic spaces with an intimate concert experience featuring the Brampton Folk Club. The program will feature Brown Ale and The Burtons performing “Songs of the Sea” In-the-round. Tickets are free with donations welcome.

“Our city is a living mosaic of different heritages that make our city vibrant and unique,” Mayor Patrick Brown said in a release. “Together, we celebrate we can continue to foster local creativity and celebrate the talent that lives here.”
