A fire broke out at a home in Oshawa overnight.

Crews were on the scene of the working structure fire on Springwater Crescent, in the Taunton Road East and Wilson Road North area, early Wednesday (Feb. 8) morning, Oshawa Fire Services said.

The call came in around 1:30 a.m., Oshawa Fire Services Deputy Chief Todd Wood tells indurham.

“When our first in crews arrived, they encountered some heavy flames and smoke coming from the garage area of the home,” Wood says.

Fortunately, all of the occupants of the home escaped and there were no injuries reported.

The fire progressed to the second floor.

“Our crews did a fantastic job stopping it before it sustained too much damage to the second floor, Wood adds.

Around 2:20 a.m., the fire was deemed under control. Crews stayed on the scene working on hot spots.

Wood did not yet know the cause of the fire.

Update: The cause is undetermined and deemed accidental, Wood said later. The estimated damage is around $750,000.
