Rogers warns customers of a text message scam being sent to phones in the Mississauga, Brampton, and Hamilton area.
The messages appear to be from Rogers and offer credits to the customer, but Rogers Helps on Twitter says these are not legitimate offers.
“We are aware of scam text messages being sent claiming to offer credits,” Rogers Helps said. “If you receive a suspicious SMS, please forward it to 7726 (SPAM).”
We are aware of scam text messages being sent claiming to offer credits in the wake of yesterday’s service interruptions. We will apply the credit proactively to your account & no action is required. If you receive a suspicious SMS, please forward it to 7726 (SPAM).

The scam text messages come after the provider experienced nation-wide service interruptions yesterday (July 8).

Rogers encourages customers to not send anything, click any links or interact with the scam text messages whatsoever.
A statement posted today (July 9) from President and CEO of Rogers Communications, Tony Staffieri says that customers will indeed be receiving a credit as a result of the service interruptions, but there is no action necessary.
“We will proactively credit all customers automatically for yesterday’s outage. This credit will be automatically applied to your account and no action is required from you,” Staffieri said.
