A new Crave series featuring a Guelph comedian is filming in Hamilton and Toronto this month.
Season one of the series Late Bloomer, starring Guelph’s Jasmeet Singh Raina known as JusReign, has been spotted filming in Hamilton.
The series was first announced in 2020 as a Pier 21 Films production in development with CBC, according to Variety.
But the eight-episode series was later picked up by Crave, according to a 2022 announcement.
The comedy is created by and stars Raina. It is inspired by his real-life experiences navigating new-found internet fame, dating, spirituality, culture, and his dysfunctional (yet loving) family.
The series follows Jasmeet (Raina), a millennial by-product of the immigrant dream, chasing his own unconventional dreams, according to IMDb.
He tries to find a balance between Eastern customs of family and community, and a Western ideal of individualism.
“Caught at the crossroads of both, Jasmeet starts vlogging to express himself,” IMDb notes. “Surprisingly, the vlog becomes a hit, resonating with first-gen youth.”
Raina is a popular YouTuber with more than 167 million YouTube views and 966,000 subscribers.
Brampton stand-up comedian, actor, and producer Russell Peters is an executive producer of the show, according to IMDb.
Filming crews were reportedly spotted at the Sikh temple Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib on Lake Avenue North.
The filming is scheduled from March 20 to April 27 in the Toronto area, according to Ontario Creates.
