Two Mississauga people charged after Caledon crash

Two 19-year-olds from Mississauga are facing nearly 30 charges between them after a two-car crash in Caledon on Saturday night led to a brief fight with police and the recovery of a loaded gun.

According to Caledon OPP, officers responded to a collision involving two vehicles on Mayfield Road, east of McLaughlin Road, at about 7 p.m.

Moments later, the incident took an unexpected turn, according to police.

While attempting to investigate the collision, one of the officers was given false information from one of the drivers, who was then arrested.

At that point, according to police, another person, who arrived at the scene after the crash, “fought with officers attempting to conduct the arrest, but was subdued without injury.”

Police say a subsequent search of one of the involved vehicles resulted in officers locating a loaded firearm with an “over-capacity magazine.”

Two people from Mississauga, both 19, are facing numerous charges.

The first is facing 15 charges including careless driving, fail to surrender licence, obstruct peace officer, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm obtained by crime, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and various other firearms charges.

The second person is facing 14 charges including resist peace officer, obstruct peace officer, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of prohibited device or ammunition obtained by crime and various other firearms charges.

Both were held for a bail hearing. Police didn’t release the names or gender of the two people charged.
