The COVID-19 virus is still lingering in Durham, though all the underlying numbers are either stable or decreasing each week.

The flu season, however, is still in full swing.

The important number is the number of deaths from COVID during the April 16-22 period, which is zero. The number of new cases is up slightly, from 95 to 102 and the weekly incidence rate (per 100,000 population) is up a bit to 13.9 from 13.0.

The number of outbreaks in local hospitals, long-term care homes and retirement residences dropped to six (from seven) and the per cent positivity rate fell from 6.4 per cent to 5.4 per cent.

Hospital patients with the virus also dropped, from 22 to 20, with three in intensive care.

Lakeridge Health’s cold, flu, and COVID-19 care clinics closed March 31 but testing, assessment, and/or treatment is still available at your local pharmacy that provides COVID-19 testing.or through your primary care family doctor or nurse practitioner.
