COVID numbers in Durham Region from Whitby to Beaverton on decline

COVID-19 numbers in Durham Region fell for the second consecutive week, though hospitalizations remained consistent.

There are 36 people in local hospitals with the virus as of August 11, versus 37 the week previous, with three in ICU. There was just one person in ICU on July 31. There was one more death, bringing the total since the pandemic was declared to 501.

Other COVID numbers were positive, with the weekly incidence rate down to 51.7 per 100,000 population (versus 57.4), the per cent positivity rate at 11.2 per cent (from 12.3 per cent) and the total number of cases dropping to 379 during the July 31-August 6 period (from 421).

There were 14 outbreaks at institutions, such as hospitals, retirement centres and long term care homes, versus 15 the previous week.
