COVID-19 numbers are trending in the wrong direction for the second consecutive week with almost all data showing the virus is still playing a part in our lives.

New case totals are up 50 from 287 during the previous period to 337 reported from September 25 and October 1. The weekly incidence rate is at 45.9 per 100,000 people, up from 39.1. The per cent positivity rate also jumped to 9.4 per cent from 8.7 per cent.

Hospital admissions for COVID are 41 (from 38) though there just two people in intensive care with the virus versus five during the previous period.

Outbreaks in institutions such as retirement centres, hospitals and long term care homes spiked as well, with 19 outbreaks – including three at local hospitals – versus 12 and two the previous reporting period.

The only bright spot is the number of deaths from the virus last week is zero, the same as the previous period.
