COVID numbers down once more in Durham Region

The only thing consistent about COVID-19 numbers in Durham Region in recent months has been the reduced risk factor as the impact of the virus that has plagued us for three years loosens its grip on our lives.

COVID is still around, however, and will likely be a part of life – like influenza, for example – for years to come.

Numbers are mostly down in Durham for the week of May 28 to June 3, with the only outliers the hospital numbers – up to a dozen, with three in ICU (from 11 and zero) – and the per cent positivity rate, which was consistent with the previous reporting period at 9.7 per cent.

All other numbers are down from the previous week, including the all-important number of deaths, which was zero last week. Also down is outbreaks at long-term care homes, local hospitals and retirement centres (four, from six); the weekly incidence rate per 100,000 population (5.7 from 7.2) and the number of new cases, which dropped from 53 to 42.
