COVID number rise slightly in Durham Region; one new death

COVID-19 numbers took a slight turn upwards last week but the presence of the virus that has killed 551 people in Durham Region since March 2020 remains low, though there was one more death reported in the May 21-27 period.

Hospital cases are up, from six to 11, though there no COVID patients in Durham hospitals in intensive care. The number of new cases rose slightly to 53 (from 51) and the weekly incidence rate (per 100,000 people) went to 7.2 from 7.0. The per cent positivity rate climbed a touch to 9.7 per cent from 9.4 per cent.

The number of outbreaks at local hospitals, retirement centres and long-term care homes remained steady at six.
