A breakdown of today’s COVID-19 cases in Halton shows increases in communities across the region.

In total, there are 187 active cases in Halton today, a jump of 59 from yesterday.

Burlington has 69 active cases (an increase of 29 from the day before), Oakville 65 active cases (up 16), Milton 38 active cases (up 11) and Halton Hills 15 active cases (up three).

So far, Halton has managed to avoid the new restrictions imposed on some Ontario regions by Premier Doug Ford.

Today, Ford announced that in Toronto, Ottawa and neighbouring Peel, sweeping new temporary restrictions have been put in place starting tomorrow that will include closing indoor restaurants and bars, gyms and casinos. Sport team activities will also be limited and residents will be asked not to travel. Calling it a modified stage 2 approach to the pandemic, Ford said schools and places of worship can stay open. The new restrictions are in place for the next 28 days.

The move comes in response to Ontario reaching 939 new COVID-19 cases today.
