New case counts of the COVID-19 virus remain high, with 78 new cases reported over the past three days.

Ajax, with eight, and Whitby, with seven, drove the numbers Friday when 23 new cases were reported. Brock reported three new cases Saturday of just five in the region, which is likely reflective of a delay in reporting as 46 were reported Sunday, with 11 from Oshawa, ten from Clarington, eight each from Pickering and Ajax and seven from Whitby.

Three residents are in hospital and two remain in ICU from the virus.

There are still zero outbreaks at long-term care homes in Durham and school outbreaks stand at nine, with 29 students affected: 18 children are from still shuttered EE Corpus Christi in Oshawa. The number of workplace outbreaks has spiked, with four now reported in the business, construction, retail and sports & recreation sectors.

There are 255 active cases of the virus in Durham Region.
