Whether Thursday’s new Covid-19 case total of 13 is a one-off or a good sign for the future is unclear but the fact the new case totals dropped by 20 can’t be considered bad.

Wednesday’s total of 33 new cases was the highest in months and represented an alarming increase from just nine two days previous, so Thursday’s reported new case total of 13 was welcome to front-line workers worried about a possible fourth wave.

Oshawa and Ajax reported three new cases each yesterday.

The other piece of good news came from local hospitals where there were four patients on Wednesday, including one in ICU. All four have been released to finish their isolation periods at home, making Durham hospitals once again Covid-free.

The percentage of fully vaccinated 12-and-over residents in Durham showed a small bump to 70.9, with 77.7 per cent of the 12-plus population having received at least one dose.
