COVID cases in Durham jump to 55, with 18 from Oshawa

COVID-19 cases in Durham Region took a big jump Thursday with 55 new cases reported, including 18 from Oshawa.

There were 33 new cases Wednesday and the numbers dipped to as low as 12 last Sunday.

There are now 205 active cases in the region, with three people in hospital and one in ICU.

Whitby reported 11 new cases, Pickering nine, Ajax and Clarington eight each and Scugog one. Brock and Uxbridge reported zero new cases.

There are also two confirmed outbreaks at Durham schools, with two children isolating at St. George’s School and Daycare in Ajax and two more isolating at Valley Farm Public School in Pickering.

Hillsdale Estate in Oshawa has four residents self-isolating after an outbreak that began August 26 and led to five deaths. Twenty-three of the cases have been resolved.
