COVID-19 virus still showing signs of resiliance in Durham but new cases down

The COVID-19 virus is still hanging around in Durham Region with several of the underlying numbers showing small spikes in the last reporting period.
The good news is the number of new cases reported between Feb.19-25 is down sharply from 196 to 169, while the weekly incidence rate per 100,000 people is also down, from 26.7 to 23.0.
What’s up is the number of people in hospital with the virus – 35 now, with one in ICU (from 25 the previous period) – and the per cent positivity rate (now 8.3 per cent, from 7.9 per cent). The number of outbreaks at long term care homes, hospitals and retirement centres is also up (13 now, with two in local hospitals, from nine the previous period) as is the most important category of all: fatalities.
There were two deaths from COVID in Durham last week, up from one the last reporting cycle.
