Due to continued vaccination efforts throughout the Niagara Region, there has been a significant drop in residents seeking COVID-19 tests.

To that end, Niagara Health just announced they would be shutting down two of their three COVID-19 Assessment Centres in mid-July.

Both the Niagara Falls and the Welland assessment centres will close up shop on July 16. The Niagara Falls clinic will shut the doors at 4 pm while the Welland location will stop taking patients at 5 pm.

However, the St. Catharines Assessment Centre will remain open for the foreseeable future Monday to Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm.

Should the need to reopen arise, Niagara Health said, “Our assessment centre teams are nimble and can move quickly to ramp back up should demand for testing increase. Since our assessment centres opened, we have processed 255,717 COVID tests on 143,981 individuals.”

The organization added; “Getting tested is one of the most effective strategies to minimize the spread of COVID-19. Anyone who has been exposed to a COVID-19 positive person or is experiencing symptoms should get tested.”

Residents who feel they have symptoms or have been directed to an Assessment Centre for a test can still book an appointment online with Niagara Health or call 905-378-4647 ext. 42819 (4-CV19).
