It was a mixed bag of messages on the COVID-19 front last week with hospitalizations up by eight patients over both of the previous two reporting periods to 37 but new cases of the virus down to 202 from 218.

There was one new death from COVID during the January 29-February 4 reporting period, down from two the previous week but still one too many.

The per cent positivity rate climbed to 9.5 per cent from 9.1 per cent while the weekly incidence rate dropped to 27.5 per 100,000 population from 29.7. The number of outbreaks in hospitals, long term care homes and retirement centres remained constant at eight.
