COVID-19 cases are tracking in the right direction in Durham Region with influenza cases also decreasing; a good sign with flu season still in full swing.

New COVID cases are down to 74 for the week from 86 last week with three outbreaks in local retirement centres, hospitals and long-term care homes, according to data from Durham Region Health.  Just one resident was admitted to hospital. Last week also had three outbreaks, with four resulting in a hospital stay.

Flu results are also promising with 50 confirmed cases this week versus 65 last week.

Wastewater signals for both COVID-19 and influenza are considered stable at the water plant in Clarington and decreasing at the Corbett Creek plant in Whitby.
