COVID-19: Hamilton reports just 4 new cases and outbreak declared at National Steel Car

Hamilton is reporting just four newly confirmed COVID-19 cases and no deaths associated with the virus on Tuesday (June 15).
This is the second time in the last four days that Hamilton has seen a single-digit daily increase in the number of new cases. On Saturday, Hamilton reported just six new cases.
The number of active COVID-19 cases in the community has also fallen to 196, the first time in months that number has dipped below 200.
The number of active outbreaks across the city is 10 after one was declared at National Steel Car on Monday when three people at the plant tested positive for the virus.
The plant closed earlier this spring after dozens of workers at the plant tested positive for COVID-19 and an outbreak was declared.
There are 41 people with confirmed cases of the virus being treated in Hamilton hospital presently and, according to Hamilton Public Health Services data shared on the City’s website, the community is slowly but surely emerging from the third wave of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Ontario is recording the lowest number of new cases in the last ten months on Tuesday.
The province reported just 296 new cases of the virus and 13 deaths.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says there are 62 new cases in Peel Region, 60 in Toronto and 45 in Waterloo Region.
The province says 433 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Tuesday morning.
That number includes 382 patients in intensive care and 244 on ventilators.
The province says 184,989 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered on Monday for a total of more than 11.5 million doses.
In Hamilton, 422,597 vaccine doses have been administered to date, accounting for 71.4 per cent of eligible residents.
