COVID-19: Hamilton reports 31 newly confirmed cases, Ontario reports 513

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Hamilton continues to rise as the City reported 31 newly confirmed cases in the community on Thursday (Aug. 12) and no new deaths.

As of Thursday, there have been 21,939 total cases of the virus locally since it was first reported here in March 2020 and 404 deaths.

Currently, there 216 active cases (up from 209 on Wednesday) and six active outbreaks.

The seven-day average for new cases is up to 31 from 29 at Wednesday’s reporting, but Hamilton’s reproductive number remains below 1 at .97.

Meanwhile, Ontario is reporting 513 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, with more than 80 per cent of them in unvaccinated or partially vaccinated people.

It’s the highest case total since mid-June and is based on 22,896 tests done in the previous day.

There are no new virus-related deaths reported in the province Thursday.

Health Minister Christine Elliott said 113 people are in intensive care units due to COVID-19, and just two of them are fully vaccinated.

As of Thursday, 752,194 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Hamilton, with 77.4 per cent of residents 12 years of age and older having received at least one shot and 68.7 per cent fully vaccinated.
