An x-rated outburst from Canadian defender Allysha Chapman during Canada’s 4-0 loss to Australia this week is making the rounds on social media, with memes all the rage capturing her response to Australia coach Tony Gustavsson’s complaints over her rough play.
Oshawa-born and Courtice-raised Chapman and Australian forward Hayley Raso came together in pursuit of the ball late in the game with Australia already up 3-0. Raso, who scored twice in the first half, needed medical attention on the field after the collision and Gustavsson took exception to the tackle from his spot on the sideline, prompting Chapman’s salty response, captured on the telecast on a live microphone: “She f***ing jumped into me you tw*t!”
BBC sports commentator Robyn Cowen quickly apologized to viewers. “Apologies there if any language was picked up on the very sensitive pitch-side microphones it seems.”
Commentators and even a few Australian players said the two players simply “came together” and ther was no foul and the referee agreed, awarding a throw-in and not a free kick after the play.
There are plans by at least one budding entrepreneur to put the photo of the incident and Chapman’s reply on coffee cups.
Chapman, 34, has been capped 98 times for her country.
