Ward 7 Oakville Town and Regional Councillor Nav Nanda climbed to new heights with her win in the last municipal election and now her family members are climbing to their own new heights.

And we mean climbing way up.

Nanda’s husband and 15-year-old son were among a group of 19 people to recently successfully summit Mount Kilimanjaro located in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania.

At 19,341 feet above sea level, it is he highest mountain in Africa and the Eastern Hemisphere.

“Fifteen of the 19 are from Oakville, and 12 of them are from our very own Oakville Ward 7,” said Nanda, who posted pictures of the group Thursday (March 16) on Twitter.

Nanda has lived in Oakville with her husband and four children since 2014.

Part of Kilimanjaro National Park, Kilimanjaro is the fourth most topographically prominent peak on Earth. It is a major hiking and climbing destination.
