There won’t be another Costco coming along the border of Oakville and Burlington.

“There is no application for such a thing,” said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton.

In a discussion with Khaled Iwamura of inhalton.com, the mayor shut down rumours that the mega retail warehouse was set to open a new location at the RioCan Centre Burloak, located at 3527 Wyecroft Rd. in Oakville.

Last week Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward also said she was not aware of a new Costco opening in the area.

Still, rumours persist that Costco is planning to find another spot in Halton Region to open another warehouse.

Costco already has locations at 1570 Dundas St. at the Mississauga/Oakville border and in Burlington at 1225 Brant St. which forces shoppers in both Milton and Halton Hills to travel outside of their communities to buy their goods at the outlet.

Early this week, Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz weighed in, saying, “I wish I knew,” when asked if there were any plans to open up in his town.

“You would be surprised how often I am asked that,” Krantz told inhalton.com.

The rumours about the new Oakville location were ignited last week on a convincing Reddit post from someone who appears to work for the Town of Oakville

They stated that the new location would be in the entire southwest portion of the RioCan Centre Burloak.

Costco also would not confirm a new Oakville outlet, pointing to a corporate policy that new locations are only officially revealed three months in advance. The only new location in Canada mentioned on the Costco website is London, Ontario.

While Burton said Costco has not submitted any plans for a new warehouse to the Town, he pointed out that the company’s vision may yet turn again to Oakville.

“But the land is filling up fast so their chance of doing so are diminishing rapidly,” he said.
