Costco opens new location in Ontario with unique items

Costco opened a new location in Ontario on Tuesday, but its unlike the retail giant’s usual warehouses.

A Costco Business Centre opened at 3115 Argentia Road, near Winston Churchill Boulevard, in Mississauga.

The 117,000 square-foot facility is the seventh of its kind in Canada and fourth in Ontario, the company said.

“It is part of a Costco national expansion plan, with additional Costco Business Centre locations planned to open across Canada over the next couple of months,” a news release said.

As noted, the Costco Business Centre is unlike the other Costco locations that are already in Mississauga.

“Open to all Costco members, the business centre concept is vastly different from the traditional Costco warehouse, with more than 70 per cent of the product offerings unique to the business centre, and targeted to meet the needs of businesses of all sizes,” the release said.

For instance, a $1,300 barrel of olive oil is among the products offered. Wheels of parmesan cheese are also for sale.

“The new Mississauga Costco Business Centre location will offer more than 3,000 high-quality items, targeted at restaurants, convenience/grocery stores and offices – from bulk food items, to commercial kitchen wares and cleaning supplies, to office furniture, coffee needs and everything in between,” the release said.

Among the promotions being offered for the opening week: $20 off Moulin Rouge 5kg pure ground pepper, $110 off an Eurodib single heavy duty induction cooker, and $30 off Bulk by CHO 20L bag-in-box Tunisian olive oil.

The warehouse has a 14,000 square-foot cooler and 10 trucks for commercial delivery.

It’s open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

“The Costco Business Centre concept is already a resounding success in the Toronto area, and we look forward to offering the same benefits to businesses in Mississauga and surrounding areas, which we also hope will bring many new consumers to discover the benefits of a Costco membership,” said Marc-André Bally, the senior vice president of Canadian business centres.

Costco said the new location has created 200 part-time jobs.

There are 111 Costco warehouses in Canada and more than 17 million Costco cardholders.
