Correctional workers at Milton’s jails will be among those province-wide caring for their communities by raising money for local charities.

OPSEU/SEFPO workers at Local 234 – Maplehurst Correctional Complex and Vanier Centre for Women are taking part in the sixth annual Corrections Cares Week.

“When our members chose careers in Corrections, we did it to help people, and to make our communities safer,” said Chad Oldfield, Chair of the OPSEU/SEFPO Correctional Bargaining Unit.

“By holding Corrections Cares events every year, we help out local charities and strengthen ties with our neighbours. We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with our communities in this way.”

Milton correctional officers are holding a charity hockey game between the staff of the two facilities, as well as a family skate Saturday, Mar. 4, from 2 to 5 p.m. at John Tonelli Sports Centre, 217 Laurier Ave.

All proceeds from the event are going to the Milton Food Bank.

Since 2018, OPSEU/SEFPO correctional workers have raised more than $73,000 and 5,365 pounds of food donations for local charities across the province through annual Corrections Cares events.
