An Ajax man has been charged with drug trafficking and weapons possession offences after allegedly running from a traffic stop.

Sault Ste. Marie police pulled the man over on Dufferin St. around 9:30 p.m. on July 11. This area is a short road through a residential area. Sault Ste. Marie sits on the southern tip of Lake Superior, a roughly eight-hour drive from Ajax.

During the traffic stop, the man allegedly ran from his car. Police called in a Canine Unit to search for the man. The dog found the man a short distance away hiding in a backyard on Trelawne Ave.

The man was arrested in the yard initially for a breach of release orders from earlier charges. Officers then searched his car and claim to have found;

  • 71 grams of fentanyl,
  • 66 grams of meth,
  • 19 grams of cocaine,
  • three cell phones,
  • a wad of cash, and
  • a loaded restricted pistol.

Ryan Cranston, 25 of Ajax, was charged with five firearms offences, three counts of drug trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime and three counts of breaking a release order. He remains in custody until a bail hearing.
