Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating a crash between a cop car and a driver in Brampton that saw a man rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

Peel Regional Police said the crash happened in the early morning hours on Saturday (March 11) near Main St. North and Vodden St. East.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says that a male officer was responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle around 12:00 a.m. on Saturday when he was involved in a collision with another vehicle at Main St. and Archibald St.

The SIU says a 57-year-old man was seriously injured in the wreck and transported to a local hospital. Two other occupants in the civilian vehicle were not seriously injured, while police say the officer suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The extent of the injuries suffered in the crash is still unknown and the SIU says it is investigating the collision.

The SIU is Ontario’s civilian watchdog agency which investigates whenever a policing incident leads to death, assault or serious injury.
