Convenience store in Pickering strip plaza torched in suspected arson

Arson suspected in Pickering convenience store fire

Police are searching for at least two firebugs following an arson at a Pickering plaza early Thursday morning, with witnesses seeing two suspects fleeing the area after a store was set ablaze.

Police were called to assist Pickering Fire at 12:30 a.m. Thursday to a plaza at Kingston Road and Rougemount Drive after a convenience store became engulfed in flames.

Fire crews were able to contain the fire to one unit, saving the rest of the plaza.

No injuries have been reported.

Further investigation revealed the two suspects fled the area in a dark coloured sedan immediately following the start of the fire.

Anyone that was in the area between 11:30 p.m. and 12:15 a.m., with cell phone, dash cam, surveillance footage or information about this incident is asked to contact the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1905.
