Post-secondary education is coming to Milton sooner than expected.

Conestoga College has announced that it has purchased a building in MIlton that will be converted for educational use by January of 2024, just a little over a year from now.

The college made the surprise announcement today (Dec. 2) with the news that it bought a site on Parkerhill Dr. which will be used as its first campus. It is located in the Hwy. 401 and Martin St. area. in a north end industrial area.

Previously it had been announced that Conestoga was teaming up with Wilfred Laurier University to create a joint campus. That project is still on the table and is slated for the Milton Education Village that will open much later on a 400-acre spot south of Derry Rd., west of Tremaine Rd. and north of Britannia Rd.

Meanwhile, in just over a year’s time, the new Milton campus will offer programs in information technology and business and have room for up to 1,500 students.

According to a spokesperson for the college, the building, at 8160 Parkerhill Dr. will be renovated for classroom work. Temporary portable-like structures will also be placed nearby administrative uses.

In earlier interview with inhalton.com, Milton mayor Gord Krantz said the development of the larger Milton Education Village should begin within the next year which will see the joint Laurier and Conestoga project move forward.
