A Mississauga concert will pay tribute to the “beautiful game” next month.
The Mississauga Symphony Orchestra and Music of the World present A Tribute to the Beautiful Game on July 18 at the Living Arts Centre.
The concert celebrates the passion, energy and global spirit of football.
It is also affordable, with general admission tickets available for $35 (taxes and fees included). It will be first-come, first-served seating.
“This concert represents an exciting new chapter for the MSO,” said Claudine LaRochelle, executive director of the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra. “Not only is it our first indoor summer concert presented at the Living Arts Centre, but it also introduces a new pricing model designed to make live orchestral music more accessible than ever.”
With lower ticket prices, it is hoped that more people across Mississauga will “experience the power of live music.”
Inspired by the world’s most popular sport, this unique summer concert takes audiences on a musical journey across continents, featuring works that reflect the cultures, traditions and musical heritage of nations that have helped shape the game, the MSO said.
Hits from the football world include: Brazil’s Lambada, K’Naan’s Wavin Flag from South Africa 2010, the Caribbean hit Feeling Hot Hot Hot, Canadian icon Bryan Adams’ Summer of 69, Shania Twain, Santana, Neil Diamond, Pitbull, Ricky Martin’s The Cup of Life and Shakira’s Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).
“Like music, football has an extraordinary ability to unite people from every corner of the world,” said Maestro Denis Mastromonaco, artistic director and conductor of the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra. “This concert celebrates the cultures, traditions, and musical voices of nations connected through the world’s game. It is a joyful and uplifting program that reflects the spirit of community, diversity, and shared experience that both music and sport inspire.”
Whether you’re a passionate football supporter or simply looking for a fun summer night out, Music of the World offers an entertaining celebration of music, culture and community, the MSO said.
