Community encouraged to submit names for new elementary school in Milton

Members of the community are being encouraged to submit names for a new elementary school in The Town of Milton.

The new school, which will be part of the Halton District School Board (HDSB), is scheduled to open in the fall and will be located in southwest Milton at 1385 Kovachik Blvd.

As a result, families and community members are invited to submit suggestions for the name of the new school from now until Feb. 4, 2022.

The HDSB acknowledges the significance of naming a new school as an opportunity to recognize the geography, history or culture of the community and consider equity, diversity and inclusion in the school community

Additionally, the Board views it as an opportunity to celebrate a renowned person of historical significance to the Halton community and honour an individual whose contribution to society or humanity is recognized and valued across Canada.

Each of the names submitted will be reviewed by a committee which will include parent/guardian representation.

In the spring, a shortlist of names will be prepared and presented to the Board of Trustees who will select the final name at a meeting.

The selected name will then be announced in a news release and posted on the HDSB website as well as social media.
