A winter storm is expected mid week for Durham Region with snow and ice pellets leading to hazardous winter travel conditions.

Environment Canada is also calling for a chance of freezing rain as a Colorado Low brings its wintry wrath into much of southern Ontario and eastern Canada.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate and there will likely be a “significant impact” on travel in the region.

The storm is expected to arrive Wednesday night into Thursday and the mix of snow and ice may fall heavily at times. There is still some uncertainty among meteorologists as to the exact location and timing and the precipitation may mix with freezing rain in some areas.

Winter storm watches may be issued as the event draws nearer.
