A collision between a police cruiser and a civilian vehicle has sparked an investigation from Ontario’s police watchdog.

Shortly before 11 a.m. on May 14, the cruiser and car collided at the corner of Rossland Rd. and Ritson Rd. This area is home to several churches. The civilian, an 87-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was rushed to a local hospital.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which investigates anytime a person is seriously hurt or killed while interacting with police, was called in to investigate the crash. They confirmed the woman was hurt, but did not comment on the status of the involved officer.

They have assigned three investigators, two forensic investigators, and one collision reconstructionist to the case

Anyone who witnessed or recorded the crash can call the SIU at 1-800-787-8529.
