Child luring charges against Whitby man

An investigation into child luring involving 12-year-old and 13-year-old girls has led to the arrest of a Durham College employee who is now facing 10 charges.

In late 2025, investigators with the Internet Child Exploitation Unit began looking into a man who is alleged to have tried to lure two children through Reddit and Snapchat by sending sexual abuse and exploitation materials. The suspect operated under the usernames DeliveryNormal7189 on Reddit and manu041.01 on Snapchat.

In 2026 investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in Whitby. Several electronic devices were located and seized. The suspect was located in the home and taken into custody.

The suspect is an employee at Durham College, and police have concerns there may be further victims.

Manu Sugunakumar, 23, is charged with two counts each of luring a person under 16 to facilitate sexual assault and sexual interference and three counts of luring to make sexual abuse and exploitation material. He is also charged with making sexually explicit material available to minors, luring a person under 16 to facilitate sexual touching and publishing intimate images without consent.

He was held for a bail hearing.
