A Mississauga man is among three people facing drug and other charges after police north of the GTA recovered cocaine, fentanyl, body armour, more than 50 cartons of unmarked cigarettes and two vehicles during searches of homes and businesses in and around Barrie this week.

Nottawasaga OPP say members of their Community Street Crime Unit with help from numerous other law enforcement agencies in the area executed search warrants and made the arrests on Wednesday as part of what they call an ongoing drug investigation.

As a result of searches carried out at homes and businesses in Barrie and New Tecumseth, located southwest of Barrie, police also seized more than 430 grams of khat and items related to drug trafficking, OPP said in a news release today.

Specifically, according to police, some 60 grams of cocaine was seized and the body armour recovered is meant to protect against tasers.

Police didn’t reveal any other details about their investigation.

“Due to the nature of the investigation, and to protect the integrity of the investigation, no other information will be released,” OPP said in the news release.

Alwayne Smart, 40, of Mississauga, Chantel Rhoden, 27, of Alliston, and Kashwayne Daley, 46, of Barrie, are each charged with various counts of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

Additionally, Smart is charged with possession of property obtained by crime (under $5,000), Rhoden with possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime (under $5,000) and Daley with possession of property obtained by crime (over $5,000), unauthorized possession of a weapon and possession of unmarked cigarettes.

All three were released and are scheduled to appear in Bradford court in November.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to call investigators at 705-434-1939 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
