CLOSURE: Toronto brunch spot closes after multiple health violations

A Toronto restaurant in a popular neighbourhood has closed after nearly 10 health code violations. 

The Liberty Village OEB Breakfast Co. — a popular brunch franchise across Canada — recently faced an abrupt closure after the City of Toronto posted several health and safety infraction details online. 

Located in the prominent west end brunch destination, the location was hit with a total of nine infractions, ranging from significant to minor, that surround pests, contamination, and lack of proper equipment maintenance.

The total infractions and their details are as follows: 

  • Fail to protect food from contamination or adulteration.
  • Food premise maintained in manner permitting health hazard.
  • Fail to protect against harbouring of pests.
  • Fail to protect against breeding of pests.
  • Fail to remove wastes when necessary to maintain sanitary conditions. 
  • Fail to ensure equipment surface sanitized as necessary. 
  • Operate food premise: appliances not constructed to permit maintenance in sanitary condition.
  • Food premise not maintained with clean floors in food-handling room. 
  • Food premise not maintained in food handling room in sanitary condition.

At the time of publication, all recorded infractions remain open to the public on the City of Toronto’s website. 

The notice was issued as of June 19, and according to the city, the location has since closed until further notice.
