CLOSURE: Serious crash closes lanes at busy U.S. border crossing in Ontario

Update: One person has died in a collision at the U.S. border crossing near Sarnia, the Ontario Provincial Police said.

The collision happened in the westbound lanes of Highway 402 at the Blue Water Bridge in Point Edward, just after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, the OPP said in the update.

Lanes remained closed as of 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, and police said drivers can expect “major” delays when crossing the border as the OPP continues to investigate the collision.

Police didn’t provide further details on the person killed or the cause of the crash.

A serious crash on an Ontario highway has closed lanes at a U.S. border entry.

Two toll-booth lanes were closed at the Blue Water Bridge in Point Edward due to a collision on Wednesday morning, the Ontario Provincial Police said on X just after 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Located just north of Sarina, the Blue Water Bridge is one of the busiest U.S. border crossings in Ontario.

The OPP said serious injuries were reported in the crash.

Just after 10 a.m., police said the three westbound right lanes of Highway 402 were closed approaching the Blue Water Bridge in Point Edward.

“Expect a prolonged closure while the investigation is ongoing,” the OPP said.

Ministry of Transportation cameras show lengthy traffic backups in the area.
