CLOSURE: Roads closed for soccer fan march in Toronto

Update: The crowd size for the FIFA World Cup soccer fan march reached approximately 5,000 people at 1:14 p.m., Toronto Police said on X.

“Due to large crowd size and fan march, expect delays at Lakeshore Boulevard and Bathurst Street Access points,” police said.

Access to Lakeshore Boulevard and Bathurst Street was temporarily closed.

Just before 2 p.m., police said the roads had reopened.

Soccer fans have a march planned, closing roads in Toronto on Saturday.

Thousands of Germany and Ivory Coast soccer fans are expected in the city on Saturday for the FIFA World Cup match at Toronto Stadium at 4 p.m.

Toronto Police said a fan march is planned starting at 12:30 p.m.

The Germany team fan group will start from Amsterdam Brewhouse, at Queens Quay West and Robertson Crescent and proceed westbound on Queens Quay West to Stadium Road.

The march will continue northbound to Lakeshore Boulevard West and will end at Coronation Park, police said.

Road closures will be in effect, police added.

The following road closures are in place on June 20:

  • 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Local access only for Liberty Village residents and businesses, below King Street from Dufferin Street to Strachan Avenue and Ordinance Street east of Strachan Avenue.
  • 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. -Strachan Avenue from East Liberty Street to Lake Shore Boulevard West is fully closed in both directions as well as all roads inside Exhibition Place.
  • 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. To ease traffic congestion, motorists may be diverted northbound temporarily at Colborne Lodge Drive, Parkside Drive, Lower Simcoe Street and Rees Street.
  • 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Local access for residents and businesses in the Fort York neighbourhood (Bathurst Street to Strachan Avenue, Fleet Street to Fort York Boulevard).
