A restaurant that’s been serving up comfort food for the soul has just announced that they will be closing down their operations in Toronto.

Borscht Kitchen serves Ukrainian food in Toronto, with a spotlight on borscht, a traditional soup. In addition to borscht, they also serve other dishes like pierogis, potato pancakes, cabbage rolls, eggplant rolls and crepes.

The restaurant flies a little under the radar because it shares space with a sushi spot. But if this is the first time you’re hearing about it and you want to go check it out, unfortunately you don’t have too long.

“Honestly, it hurts a little. Because this place was never just about food,” reads a social media post from Borscht Kitchen.

“It was about comfort, warm, familiar food, and a place that simply felt like home. Thank you to everyone who came, ordered, supported and stayed with us. You made this place alive. We don’t know what’s next yet. But if we find the right partner, maybe we’ll be back – in a new place, in a new way. For now – come by one more time.”

The post has around 150 likes and plenty of comments on Instagram from people who are sad to see the unique restaurant close.

“So sad about this,” someone commented. “I only discovered you a month ago, but I’m so glad I got to try so many of your dishes!!!”

“That’s so incredibly awful! I never came in person but ordered delivery all the time whenever I needed home-comfort food,” someone wrote in a comment. “Good luck with your new ventures.”

One person commented that they have the “best varenyky in the city” with another writing, “Oh no, your holubci is amazing!!”

Other people expressed their hopes for the future of Borscht Kitchen in the comments of the post on Instagram.

“Sorry to hear that, it was delicious,” one person commented. “We don’t have a Ukrainian restaurant in Burlington, come to us!”

“Such a loss,” another person wrote. “Hopefully you will re-open later!”

The last day for Borscht Kitchen will be March 31.
